nanoComposix, Inc. Receives $720,000 Army Research Grant to Study Nanoscale IR Obscurants SAN DIEGO, CA. -September 23, 2007- nanoComposix, Inc, a privately held nanomaterials research company, announced today that it has been awarded a $720,000 Phase II Small Business Innovative Research Grant from the US Army. During the two year project, nanoComposix will develop methods to fabricate, process, and package metal nanoflakes into a next-generation infrared obscurant grenade. When dispered the nanoflakes provide an extremely effectively screen across the infrared spectrum. "There are a number of challeges associated with packing nanoflakes in a format that allows for their efficient dissemination. The alignment of the nanomaterials and the nanoflake surface coating must be carefully controlled to produce a high density packing format that can readily disperse the material with minimal aggregation and damage" said Dr. Steven Oldenburg, nanoComposix's President. "By carefully controlling each step in the production and packing of this novel material, we will be able to increase the effectiveness of the infrared screen by at least a factor of 4 over the current technology." nanoComposix is a nanotechnology-based research company that fabricates, characterizes, and develops applications for nanoparticles. The company was founded in 2004 and is based in San Diego, CA. Contact: media@nanocomposix.com << RETURN TO LIST OF PRESS RELEASES >>
