nanoComposix, Inc. Receives $600,000 NASA Research Grant

SAN DIEGO, CA. -December 2, 2005- nanoComposix, Inc, a privately held nanomaterials research company, announced today that it has been awarded a $600,000 Phase II Small Business Innovative Research Grant from the US Air Force.

During the two year project, nanoComposix will augment the thermal properties of coolants via the addition of precisely engineered nanoparticles. The nanoparticle-fluid mixtures are called nanofluids, and represent a new class of thermally conductive liquids. The developed nanofluids will increase the performance of new and existing thermal control systems and enable the deisgn of lighter and more efficient spacecraft.

"The unique properties of our nanofluid formulations allow us to produce non-toxic coolants with high thermal capacity, high thermal conductivities, and low viscosities." said the President of nanoComposix, Dr. Steven Oldenburg. "The nanoparticles can be tailored for incorporation in a wide variety of different liquids and will offer universal improvement across a wide variety of products and markets," he added.

nanoComposix is a nanotechnology-based research company that fabricates, characterizes, and develops applications for nanoparticles. The company was founded in 2004 and is based in San Diego, CA.
